Mole Conversions and Stoichiometry

ChemistryUpdated October 25, 2026

Conversions between mass, moles, molecules, and chemical stoichiometry steps.

Mole Conversions and Stoichiometry Steps

Grams to Moles: divide mass by molar mass (g / MM = mol).

Moles to Molecules: multiply moles by Avogadro's number (mol * 6.022x10^23 = molecules).

Molecules to Moles: divide molecules by Avogadro's number (molecules / 6.022x10^23 = mol).

Moles to Grams: multiply moles by molar mass (mol * MM = g).

Stoichiometry Step 1: write and balance the chemical equation based on the word problem.

Stoichiometry Step 2: convert mass of original substance to moles by dividing by its molar mass.

Stoichiometry Step 3: multiply by the mole ratio (target substance coefficient / original substance coefficient).

Stoichiometry Step 4: convert target moles to grams by multiplying by the target substance's molar mass.
