Separation Methods for Solutions
Methods for separating chemical solutions and mixtures.
Separation Methods for Solutions and Mixtures
Filtration: another chemical is added to precipitate out the target compound; requires a large difference in solubility at different temperatures.
Distillation: solution is separated by boiling off solvent; the liquid with the lower boiling point boils off first.
Column Chromatography: sample is separated based on attraction to mobile and stationary phases; sample can be collected afterwards.
Paper Chromatography: solution separates while traveling upwards based on attraction to phases; sample cannot be collected afterwards.
